Exploring the Thought of Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI
13th and 14th April 2023
St Saviour's Priory, Dublin 1, Ireland
The 6th International Ratzinger Symposium to be held in Ireland seeks to allow Ratzinger’s theological contribution, his own unique voice, to emerge from the blurred image that his leadership roles at times gave rise. Scholars are invited to submit proposals for papers that explore the legacy of the theologian Pope as well as the future possibilities and impact of this thought. The Symposium hopes that scholars across the theological and philosophical spectrum will consider Ratzinger / Benedict’s thought on a broad number of topics. We also welcome papers from those still undertaking their doctorate.
To submit a proposal please email an abstract of 250 words along with a short profile of 100 words to Dr Mary Frances McKenna at firstname.lastname@example.org. Proposals are requested by the 19th of February 2023. Confirmation of acceptance to issue on 26th of February.
A mass of thanksgiving for the life of Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI will be held during the Symposium.
The Ratzinger Symposium was set up by Professor D. Vincent Twomey in 2013 upon pope Benedict XVI's resignation from the papacy. Fr Vincent Twomey, professor emeritus of moral theology Pontifical University Maynooth, undertook his doctoral thesis at Regensburg University in the 1970s under the supervision of Joseph Ratzinger. The Ratzinger Symposium has held a number of Symposia and talks. The aim of which is to offer scholars the opportunity to explore the thought of Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI in a collegial atmosphere and enable those with an interest in his thought to meet and discuss his work.
